The Architecture of Craig Hamilton at Old Parkland, Dallas

The Architecture of Craig Hamilton at Old Parkland, Dallas

These three volumes describe and illustrate the trilogy of great buildings that Craig Hamilton has designed at Old Parkland, Dallas. Old Parkland is an office ‘campus’ developed by Crow Holdings, whose architecture, landscaping, and works of art create an ideal environment, on Renaissance lines. Hamilton’s work there comprises two major office blocks - Freedom Place and The East Campus - and a belltower or Campanile, all of which are rich in architectural and sculptural symbolism. Each of the three volumes in this series is devoted to one of these buildings. The extra large format allows the architecture to be studied in detail, along with the sculptures of Professor Alexander Stoddart, HM the King’s Sculptor in Ordinary in Scotland, which are central to the project.

Hamilton’s exceptional hand drawings provide the best means of understanding the complex detail and iconography of these works, and a large number are shown. Photographs display the finished buildings in their three-dimensional form. The text by Professor Clive Aslet introduces Hamilton and analyses the architectural form and syntax in detail. To Hamilton, architecture is an expression of the spiritual values that guide his life. Emanating from the western classical tradition and replenished by Hamilton’s respect for vernacular architecture, among other deeply personal inspirations, the language of the past that we see in this book has been reinvented for the 21st century.
